Recently, I was asked to bring a few bottles of wine to a dinner party. As I walked into the neighborhood wine store, I realized I had no idea how to choose a wine or which wine to choose. Each wine had a number based on a 100 point scale and a brief description listed underneath. Yet, the information did little to explain the wines in a way that I as a novice wine drinker could understand. Some of the terms used were “full-bodied”, “elegant”, and “beautifully-proportioned”—I couldn’t figure out if the description was for the wine or my favorite movie star. My friends shared the same frustration.
